INCF and BIDS Collaborate in Google Season of Docs 2024

17 April 2024

We are happy to announce that INCF has been accepted as an umbrella organization in the Google Season of Docs (GSoD) program for 2024! GSoD is a global program that brings the open source and technical writer communities together. Since 2019, the INCF network has served as a mentoring organization that pairs technical writers with developers of open source software to work on 3-month technical writing projects. In this year’s GSoD, we are teaming up with the Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS) team in the US, supporting their project entitled Streamlining the BIDS Online Presence.

BIDS, already an INCF-endorsed standard, is an open global community driving the standardization of neuroscience data across a broad and growing range of modalities and health research disciplines. As a standard, it prescribes a formal way to name and organize MRI and other neuroimaging data and metadata in a file system that simplifies communication and collaboration between users and enables easier data validation and software development through using consistent paths and naming for data files.

Through GSoD 2024, improvements from this project will not only lower barriers to adoption and satisfy FAIR guiding principles, but they will improve the experience of referencing all BIDS documentation for new and old users alike. Congratulations to the BIDS team for a successful proposal, and we look forward to further collaboration!
